NO MORE

Heart pounding so hard,
each second making it more difficult to breathe.
Lying on his deathbed he thought,
“heaven above or all the way beneath?”

Would it be everlasting
or writhing pain?
Would everything fall apart
and nothing remain?

His family by his side,
even the ones who just visited during the holidays.
How come he is of this importance,
when on his deathbed he lays.

Would he be remembered, he thought,
for nothing extraordinary he’d done.
The child in him had died too soon,
and he’d never dreamt of wanting the moon or the sun.

Pain conquered his body,
he could no longer feel his arms or feet.
Alas! it’s here, he sighed.
The god he worshipped he was about to meet.

An inner scream, silence to the world.
The brain was dead, so was the heart.
His wife kept staring at his still eyes.
For now they were finally apart.

You’d wonder i’m gonna tell you where he went,
and was that place somewhere you’d want to be,
But all they saw is what i can tell,
all pale and dull but from pain he was free.

So no, there is no definition of death,
it’s felt by only the one who’s about to leave.
But even i wonder if there’s any beauty in it,
or is it something that the living would never believe.
