LIMBLESS

Crack! went the shell,
A sound only few could hear.
Would the hatched one dwell?
Nothing but the future would bear.

Not so much of a vision to see.
All covered up in slime.
Would something great this ever be,
Worthy enough to be put in a rhyme?

Slithering and sliding,
Passing through the riverbank.
A little one is riding,
One of nature’s lowest rank.

Beautiful and shining,
Darkest of the dark.
Ain’t no leader yet not whining,
About the journey alone he’s about to embark.

Keeps going on, minding it’s own,
Never trying to torment a soul.
Beings with arms and legs and bone,
Play a very important role.

They curse and despise it,
For once to save it’s own it charged!
Ignorant of the beauty inside it,
From all the goodness it was debarred.

The fruit of the forbidden tree,
Seemed to do a lot with a demon.
But this little slitherer couldn’t be free,
Even from the clutches of the biblical one.

Why loathe it so much?
Why kill it if spotted?
Imagine an existence much larger than such,
Squish us and treat us like the boycotted.

Oh wait! There are countless,
Among us who are detested.
For crimes they didn’t commit nonetheless,
From the society they are rejected.

Each unique skin shade,
Each one who’s specially able,
Each distinctive belief made,
Them the serpent’s imitable.

All it’s life it faced resentment,
Even though it’s being was already tough.
So “live and let live” is an understatement,
For it has had its own share of ‘more than enough!’
